Now that the Minnesota Vikings defensive tackles Pat Williams and Kevin Williams are very likely to face a four-game suspension for using banned substance, many people have worried that their beloved team would lose the season opener to the New Orleans Saints because of the Williams Wall’s absence.
Some other people took a closer look at the situation and made a different conclusion that the Vikings still have a great chance to beat the Saints for avengement. If the Williamses are set to serve the suspension, the Saints would also be without their defensive end Will Smith in the first four games for the same reason that keeps the Williamses out of the game, as Smith was caught up in the StarCaps case along with the Williamses. What’s more important, Smith’s importance to the Saints’ defense was similar to Williamses’to the Vikings, so the defenses of both teams would be equally weakened or the Saints’ could be even weaker.
The Saints’ defense ranked lower that 20th in 2009 season, and 13 of their 35 sacks were made by Smith. Losing smith would make the Saints’ defense even weaker, while the Vikings still have replacing defensive linemen for the Williamses. Even though they are going to face the defending champion, the Vikings are still very likely to win the season opener, and their chance would become greater if starting quarterback Brett Favre wears back his Vikings jersey to play the game.
